Located on the West Coast of Ireland at the head of Cashel Bay in the heart of Connemara, this mid-19th century country house is nestled in a beautiful setting surrounded by extensive gardens. Opened as a luxury hotel in 1968 by Dermot and Kay McEvilly, it offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere that guests experience from the moment they arrive. The owners greet all guests during their stay. Rooms and suites are spacious, well appointed, and wonderfully comfortable. The bathrooms, linens and amenities are all well thought out. Tea is offered upon arrival and soft Irish music welcomes guests to their rooms. Fresh flowers abound. During cool weather, fires burn in the many fireplaces, offering a wonderful place to relax, enjoy a book or have a cup of tea. There is a lovely bar just off the lobby, also with a fireplace. The restaurant is truly outstanding in terms of both cuisine and service, and there is a very good selection of wines in a wide range of prices. Eggs come from their own hens and the taste is immediately apparent. Situated as it is on the Connemara Peninsula, day trips include visits to the seaside village of Clifden (some wonderful art galleries here), the bustling town of Galway, as well as a drive along the wild and beautiful Connemara coast.
