Il Borro, a 2,500 acre estate situated 3,000 feet above sea level, is owned by the Salvatore Ferragamo family. The property includes a medieval village with 17 stone houses plus three additional houses - comprising 11 apartments - built on other areas of the estate. Because the village sits at a high elevation all but the main villa, Villa di Borro, have NO AIR CONDITIONING. A swimming pool, available to all guests, is located outside of the medieval village. Within the village, houses range in size from one to three bedrooms, and each has a fully equipped kitchen, working fireplace, and satellite television. Firewood is provided during cool weather months. The house called "Berti" is perfect for a family with small children, as there is a bedroom under the eaves with children's decor. At the entrance to the village is a restaurant. Cars must be parked in the parking area at the approach to the medieval walls. Outside of the village, rental options include a house that is divided into four apartments that shares a swimming pool with a separate guest cottage. Two new houses became available in 2001, in a delightful woodsy location near a stream and comprise five bedrooms between them with an extra sofa bed in each house. Cooks and babysitters can be provided and houses have daily maid service. Houses rent by the week during high season (May through September) but can be rented for shorter stays in low season.

NOTE: Rental car or other private transportation is necessary to reach Il Borro. Good walking shoes are strongly advised - this is not a property for those with limited mobility.

Villa Il Borro
For clients searching for a truly luxurious villa in Tuscany Villa Il Borro is a perfect match! Overlooking the village of Borro and surrounded by ornate formal Italian gardens, this villa boasts seven stories of elegantly furnished quarters. All interior spaces have been designed by the Ferragamo family and include wonderfully rich fabrics and antiques - the piano in the living room was once used by Chopin! The villa is comprised of ten bedrooms, all of which are en suite. Six of the bedrooms are master suites, and four of the bedrooms are smaller. Additional rooms include two studies, large drawing room, formal dining room, mud room, two kitchens, lounge/TV room, wine cantina, pantry, bar, billiard room, fully equipped gymnasium, and sauna. There is also a heated indoor pool located in the villa and a large outdoor pool for use during warm weather months.

A wide range of activities are available to guests: relaxing walks in the gardens or around the extensive estate, horseback rides through forests and vineyards, flying lessons, hot air ballooning, bike rides, golf practice on the driving range, city excursions and gourmet dining.

Villa Il Borro is fully staffed with maid service, receptionist, butler, cook, and an evening dinner chef. Breakfast is included in the villa rental fee, and a chef is available to prepare formal or informal dinners upon request. Food and beverage expenses (except breakfast) will be the responsibility of the client. Childcare services are available upon request for a fee. For the true jetsetters an airstrip is available for small planes and helicopters.
