Toledo: The City That is a Museum
8 Hours
Depart your hotel at 9:30 a.m. with your expert guide and private car and driver and spend the day exploring Toledo, a World Heritage City that remains much as it was in the XVI century. Splendid architectural monuments built by successive conquerors - Toledo was the capital city for the Visigoths, the Roman Empire in Hispania, the Arabs and the Spanish before the capital was moved to Madrid - offer a wealth of different cultures. A walking tour of this charming city and its narrow historical streets will include a visit to XV century Santo Tome Church with its interesting Mudejar tower and museum that is home to Greco's "The Burial of Count Orgaz." There will be time for lunch (additional cost) featuring local specialties cooked in a wood fueled oven. Visit a synagogue, Del Transito and the Sefarad Museum, and if time allows a Damasquinado factory to see the unique work incorporating gold and steel.

9 Hours
Depart for San Lorenzo de El Escorial at 9:30 a.m., traveling through the Guadarrama mountains with your expert guide and private car and driver to see this palace and monastery complex that includes a mausoleum of many Spanish kings. This beautiful example of Spanish Renaissance architecture was begun in 1557 by Felipe II as his private residence. It includes one of the most important libraries in Europe, a beautiful Basilica, and royal apartments. Then travel to Segovia, a UNESCO World Heritage city that has been the meeting point for cultures through the millennia: Roman, Arabic, Jewish and Christian. A marvel of Roman engineering, the Segovia aqueduct, built in the 1st century, is one of the best preserved in all Europe. There will be time for a typical lunch (additional cost) based on roasted meats such as lamb or suckling pig before exploring this medieval city and touring the Alcazar, a beautiful castle of unusual style begun as a fortress in the 12th century.
